As many of my loved ones know – I’m pretty enamored with any and all things French. The country itself, baguettes, cheese, and most importantly: my French friends!
I’ve had the idea for a while now to begin a project where I sit down with a few of my French friends individually and have a little talk with them about how they grew up and how being French influences them in different ways than how I’ve grown up as an American.
And so the concept behind My French Friend was born.
That, along with my budding love affair with putting videos together, has been responsible for taking up most (read:all) of my attention lately and I am happy to say that I’ve completed my first “talk” or episode of My French Friend with the help of my dear sweet friend, Serena.
Serena and I have known each other since high school, even though we actually met each other at grad night the day we graduated from high school in 2011. We then went on to college at UC Berkeley together and have been great friends ever since.
She has a French dad and an American mom, and I thought she would be the perfect person with whom to begin this project, as she has a clear view of growing up French and American. I’ve always admired her free-spirited style of easy grace and her super, super big heart.
And it’s always good to know that we can escape any awkward situation by switching from English to French – as we often do on our nights out on the town after a couple of drinks!
Here’s to the first (of several) episodes of my little baby project!
